Pioneers of Women’s Golf (pre–1950)

The women who built the foundations of the game – before there were pathways, funding, or even permission.

Before there were governing bodies, professional tours, structured pathways, or media coverage, there were women who simply decided to play.

In doing so, they created the conditions that allowed others to follow.

They organised competitions, formed clubs, negotiated access, travelled independently, and sustained competitive golf for women at a time when recognition was limited and inclusion was uncertain.

This section brings together the early pioneers of women’s golf, up to around 1950 —
the players, organisers, innovators, and visionaries whose actions made the women’s game possible.

Their stories are presented not as nostalgia or legend, but as foundational history — individual lives that collectively shaped what women’s golf became.
