Books

Authors have been documenting the evolution of Womens golf since, 1899, when Our lady of the Green was first published, with an introduction from Issette Pearson, founder of the Ladies Golf Union in 1893, and has been recognised as an important historical work by scholars, see google books quote below, where it now available free to download and read HERE

Google quote “This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible. Therefore, you will see the original copyright references, library stamps (as most of these works have been housed in our most important libraries around the world), and other notations in the work.”

Since then, there have been many books written, some like “A Shot a hole” by Pam Barton which caused a stir, when she had to decline payment of royalites from the book as she would have been deemed to be a professional and have to forfeit her amateur status, to 2025, when Stephen Proctor, journalist and author of Monarch of the Green” and “The Long Golden Afternoon published his book “Matchless” in October 2025, about the early years of womens golf, focusing on 2 prominent players of the 1920s, Joyce Wethered and Glenna Collette.
